Earlier this week, Honda released the video above showing a development model of their newly revealed UK-spec turbocharged 2.0-liter Civic Type R (a UK/Euro exclusive) posting a very fast lap of the Nürburgring Circuit.
The Type R seen in the video was a development car for Honda, which featured a roll cage, and both A/C and Radio deleted to compensate for the added weight of the cage. (claimed the Japanese manufacturer)
This fact has caused much uproar amongst the YouTube comment haters, claiming that the company cheated to produce the better lap time. This would not be true, as this car was used for development purposes only, and the fastest FWD lap record at Nürburgring, which is currently held by Renault, was not surpassed. The video was simply a demonstrative claim from Honda which has most likely generated the appropriate buzz and attention that was likely the intention of their Marketing and PR department. Honda has not officially taken the record for fastest FWD production car lap at Nürburgring yet... That will likely change with a production Civic Type R very soon.

In the video, the Type R is definitely impressive. With the added rigidity added by the roll cage, the new Civic Type R appears to handle all of the Nürburgring terrain flawlessly; straights, sweepers, and technical turns alike. While the Type R is not an all-wheel-drive car, it looks as it if may be able to compete with some of the industry's top hatch-backs and sport compacts, maybe even beat them...
Look for the new Honda Civic Type R on sale in the UK in the summer. Honda has announced the Type R will start at £29,995, with the higher-spec GT model starting from £32,295.
