Marklund Motorsport, near winners of the 2014 Teams Trophy, will additionally be joined by Kristoffersson Motorsport this time around, for an expanded WRC program in 2015.
Marklund Motorsport have confirmed that 2014 WRC Belgium winner Toomas Heikkinen will return to pilot the Volkswagen Mk5 Polo Supercar in 2015, where he will be joined by Junior WRC Champion, Per-Gunnar Andersson who had a taste of WRC in the Audi S1 of EKSRX and the Skoda Fabia of Hedstrom Motorsport during two appearances in 2014.
Kristoffersson Motorsport will move to a full time competition schedule for 2015 WRC. Johan Kristoffersson will drive for his father's team. Johan has logged a full season with the Swedish Rallycross Championship.
Johan has already made a name for himself by laying down a triple title spree in 2012 by winning the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship, the Scandinavia Porsche Championship, and the International Superstars Series. His teammate will be Tord Linnerud who will be racing the second of the team's VW Polos.
As Tanner Foust confirmed recently that he plans to compete in at least four rounds of WRC in a Volkswagen Polo, there could be up to seven Volkswagen Polo Super cars in competition at once.
“Rallycross is the hottest motorsport just now, and we and our dealers think it feels incredibly exciting to be able to support a bid where two of Sweden’s best teams are aiming at becoming world champion.”
Sten Forsberg, Manager of Volkswagen Sweden
“The World Rallycross Championship enjoys increasing popularity: The races are compact, spectacular and varied. With Marklund Motorsport and Kristoffersson Motorsport, Volkswagen is represented by two extremely professional privateer teams who develop and race their Polo RX Supercars independently.
The line-up and the calendar promise an exciting World RX season and we are confident that the Volkswagen drivers will be up there battling for races and the championship."
